The newly opened office is an outreach of the Dubbo centre and will assist in providing counselling to young people across the Western Plains. The office is staffed by Tara Brookman and Megan Siemsen and is located in Cobar Street next to Foodworks.

Headspace services include in-person, outreach, and telehealth appointments for mental health and wellbeing, alcohol and drugs support, physical and sexual health, and work and study. Shane Morris from the Dubbo Headspace said the Western Plains region had been identified as an area in need of more youth mental health, social, and wellbeing support.

Mr. Morris said Aboriginal youth, in particular, were at risk, and as a result, Headspace had a focus on First Nations people. “We have youth wellbeing workers here in Nyngan, as well as at towns around the region, to help you look after youth social and emotional wellbeing and connect them to other services in the community,” he said.

“With a focus on early intervention, we work with young people to provide support at a crucial time in their lives – to help get them back on track and strengthen their ability to manage their mental health in the future.”

Headspace also has offices in Bourke, Warren, Coonamble, Collarenebri, Gulargambone, Lightning Ridge, Walgett, and Condobolin.
