Nyngan was glued to the television on Monday night (July 29) as local boy Jack Hargreaves and the men’s eight rowing crew competed in the Olympic rowing heat. Australia was against world leader Great Britain and Italy in the three-boat heat, from which only the winner would automatically make the final.
Despite a strong effort, the ‘Rowsellas’ finished a boat length behind the charging Brits, but have a second chance at making a finals berth on Thursday (August 1) when they will contest the repechage. The students at Nyngan’s St Joseph’s School, where Jack was a student, have thrown their support behind him with posters and streamers decorating the fence.
