Nyngan runners planning to stampede

The extra-keen members of the Nyngan Run Club who braved the cold and damp conditions on Sunday morning (June 30, 2024) were joined by a guest, who was keen to encourage locals to enter the upcoming Dubbo Stampede.

Stampede committee member Rob Dickerson had spent the weekend running around western NSW – starting with the Bourke Parkrun on Saturday morning, followed by a lap with the Cobar runners and then onto Nyngan for the weekly 5.5km run club sesh.

The Nyngan Run Club was started at the beginning of the year by Jacob Neill and has continued every Sunday since, attracting runners, walkers and cyclists.

The course remains the same each week starting at 8am outside the R Fitness Shed gym and proceeding down the recreational pathway to the nature trail, Rotary Park and around the lower weir before returning to the Flood Memorial carpark.

“The course is 5.5km and allows for some parts to be cut off to make it shorter, or some people like to go further, said Grace Wells-Budd.

“We are very keen on all finishing together, not matter how fast or far you go, so the early finishers wait until everyone is back and then we take a group photo and go up the street for a coffee.”

Grace said the club had set up a group entry for members to do the upcoming City to Surf in Sydney and the Dubbo Stampede.

Mr Dickerson said the Stampede was aiming to attract more entries from western NSW and said there was an event for everyone, with the 5.5km, 10km, 21.5 km and 42 km courses.

The Nyngan Rub Club is free for anyone who enjoys a Sunday morning run/walk/ride.

“Just turn up a little before 8am and join in.  We don’t carry on about times and winning or losing.  You go at your own pace and choose your course,” said Grace.
